Singularity Academy Strengthens Strategic Cooperation with Bhutan

On Sustainability, Innovation, and Cultural Exchange

At the official invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bhutan, a high-level delegation from Singularity Academy embarked on a transformative mission to Bhutan from April 12 to 20, 2025. The delegation included Prof. Dr. ir. Ying Zhang, President of Singularity Academy, and Dr. iur. Urs Lustenberger, Chair of the Board. The visit marked a significant milestone in advancing global cooperation on sustainability, innovation, and cultural synergy.

The mission was anchored in three core objectives:

  • Elevating Bilateral Relations: To deepen ties between sustainability-oriented institutions and promote actionable partnerships.

  • Exploring Local-to-Global Impact: To assess how Bhutan’s ecological and cultural strengths can inform scalable sustainable development models.

  • Applying Knowledge Synergy: To integrate Swiss innovation with Bhutanese wisdom in co-creating community-centric, resilient solutions.

 

Strategic Dialogues with National Stakeholders

The Singularity Academy delegation held extensive discussions with key Bhutanese government ministries and institutions, including:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • Ministry of Commerce and Industry

  • Ministry of Energy

  • Druk Holding and Investments

  • Gelephu Mindful City Representatives

  • Desuung Skilling Program

  • Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry

  • Wood/Timber Association

  • Thimphu TechPark

  • Manjong Sorig Pharmaceutical Company

  • National Livestock Department

 

These dialogues aimed to advance multi-sectoral cooperation in the following strategic domains:

Key Areas of Collaboration

  • Healthcare and Well-being: Promoting the integration of Bhutanese traditional Tibetan medicine with German medical technology and Swiss academic research. This collaboration also supports mental health programs aligned with Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness (GNH) framework.

  • Clean Energy Innovation: Exploring opportunities in hydrogen mobility and green hydrogen development by leveraging Bhutan’s vast hydropower capacity.

  • Educational Partnerships: Designing bespoke academic courses in eco-tourism and business law, while fostering academic exchange and talent development programs.

  • Sustainable Tourism: Developing models that safeguard Bhutan’s cultural heritage while promoting high-value, low-impact tourism.

  • Timber Engineering and Green Construction: Advancing wood-based sustainable construction and environmentally responsible urban and transport infrastructure development.

 

This collaborative mission signifies Singularity Academy’s ongoing commitment to fostering global sustainability through inclusive, interdisciplinary, and forward-looking partnerships.
